Exercise: One of the Most Powerful Tools in Fighting Depression and Anxiety
The University of South Australia published a study on February, 23rd, 2023 showing that exercise is up to 1.5x (150%) more effective than traditional talk therapies or medications for mental health. This study encompassed 97 reviews, 1039 trials, and 128,119 participants. Of course, the study is in no way claiming that you should discontinue any therapies or medications to treat mental health conditions (or that therapies and medications are not effective, they are very effective!), simply that exercise should be a mainstay of mental health. The study showed that although more intense exercise seemed to have the best improvement on mental health, any form of exercise (even mild exercise like walking) can still have a big impact on improving mental health.
